About

Dr. Lesley Allen has been a practicing Doctor of Physical Therapy for 10+ years. She attended the University of Louisville where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a concentration of studies in the human body. Then, she was accepted into the Physical Therapy Program at Bellarmine University and graduated with honors as a Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2004. While in PT school, Dr. Allen began her own personal yogic journey which opened her eyes to the use of yoga as a therapeutic modality as it helped her to manage her stress and anxiety throughout her doctorate studies. With her doctorate degree, she has a strong knowledge base of differential diagnosis which is an important skill considering Kentucky does allow direct access to Physical Therapist.
Dr. Allen began her career at a multidisciplinary outpatient facility where she gained a strong base of experience treating a wide array of diagnoses with patients of all ages. After two years, she then began home health care working primarily with the adult and geriatric population. She thoroughly enjoys treating these patient populations with a function based approach and continues to treat these patients even while managing her own practice. For the past 10 years, she enjoys the challenge of the complex patient with multiple chronic diagnoses consisting of Heart Failure, Diabetes Mellitus, Postoperative Orthopedic Diagnoses, Women’s Health Issues (Incontinence, pelvic pain disorders, etc.), Cerebral Palsy, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Arthritis, Obesity, Immobility Syndrome and many more. She spends much of her time educating patients over nutrition and its vital role for recovery, as well as the pharmacological impacts their medications could play on their functional mobility and safety. In addition, falls prevention and home modifications for improved safety have been a large part of her practice. Dr. Allen has a drive for lifelong learning and has taken many post-graduate continuing education certifications and courses to stay current on evidence based medicine. Programs and certifications include Professional Yoga Therapy post-graduate certification program (exclusive for licensed healthcare professionals), pharmacology, falls prevention, vestibular rehabilitation, managing chronic illness and function based treatment programs for improved patient outcomes. Her practice blends the evidence-based, scientific medicine of the Western world with medical therapeutic yoga and Ayurveda to create a holistic approach to healing and wellness. With the use of the Pentagon of Wellness, a biopsychosocial model, personalized wellness programs are prescribed to address the mind, body and spirit.
In addition to her passion for her work, Dr. Allen enjoys a simple life. She is happily married to the love of her life, Christian Allen, and they have three little loves, Reed, Aspen, and Sunny (their beloved 4 legged family member and therapy dog). She enjoys volunteering at her children's school and being an active part of all their activities. She loves to spend time with her extended family and friends. In addition, she makes time for her personal joys which include organic gardening and cooking, yoga/meditation, reading, music, hiking, camping, and traveling.
